Natural disasters and bank stability: Evidence from the U.S. financial system

چکیده
We show that weather-related natural disasters in the United States significantly weaken financial stability of banks with business activities affected regions. This is reflected higher probabilities default, lower z-scores, non-performing assets ratios, foreclosure returns on and equity ratios years following a disaster. The effects are economically relevant highlight vulnerability their borrowers despite insurances public aid programs.
